Comparing to Chinese education system and American education system

Negative side: A Chinese public school education is not better than American public school education.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Today the resolution is ” Chinese public school education is better than American public school education”, we on the negative team strongly oppose this resolution.

To begin, education is an important process for human life, most of our life style depends on the education quality. American public school education is one of the most open and humanize education systems.

Our first point is American education is much more open than Chinese education.

” School in China equal boring and pure memorizing.” Said Rich Barlow, the author of ” Chinese students adjust to American education” Chinese school requires students to memorize what they must learn. But American public school education encourage students to self-study outside the classroom, and have their own question and thinking.

Our second point is American education does not just focus on learning ability, but also on improving student’s ideas.

“Chinese are taught discipline, American are taught human rights.” said Mr.Liu, a English teacher who works in Chinese public school. American education encourage students to think and question more, which makes students more independent. But Chinese education system only tells you what must be correct and what must be wrong, and you do not need to question them.

To sum up, American education system is better than Chinese education system , because it is great for developing student’s study and thinking ability.

Reflection on “Frankenstein” presentation

This week we do the presentation of “Frankenstein” on Mrs.T’s class, we presented our ethical questions by doing different types of presentation. Me and Bruce were doing the poster last week, we compare and contrast Victor Frankenstein by searched the stories of two scientists who influenced the world a lot.

I think our presentation do not have enough information and details, we only found the similar examples for positive and negative side of our ethical question: ” Why do people explore new technology?” We also have problems on following main ideas, we did not exactly follow our topic.

But we still have good side, we collaborated successfully and our poster was excellent.

To improve understanding of our topic, we cannot just search but also think. Except the information that comes from website, we need our personal thinking and use our knowledges to find out our question.

 

Ethical thinking for ” Frankenstein”

This week in Mrs.T class we are preparing the presentation the ethical thinking according to ” Frankenstein”. I work with Bruce to find out the reasons and to perdict our topic : ” Why do people explore new technology?”

We conclude that our need to consider some of the study branches including biology, psychology, physic and social science.

But this presentation need to have connection with” Frankenstein.

At beginning, me and Bruce searched the inventions that have done in human history, and searched how those invention ideas comes from. We then compare them to Victor Frankenstein, try to find how his creature similar to other inventions examples.

We then work separately. Bruce is going to do the negative side for exploring new technology, my job is opposite with Bruce’s.

I explain according to psychological theory. One is the form of curiosity, another one is the affection of family background and environment.

Victor’s mother died early while Victor was big enough to understand the meaning of life and important of emotion.Curiosity take part in human thinking when their life style and environment change. Victor study ancient science while he was small and was shock when he saw the tree was hitting by the lighting. This experience change Victor’s viewpoint of life, just like most of the scientists.

In positive way, new technology can change or improve our life style. It improve the development in human history also.

Research question

After we had finished “ Frankenstein”, a idea comes to us: Is new technology harmful for society?

 

My research question with Bruce is “ Why do people explore new technology?”

The process for doing a research question is quiet hard, that’s why we need to do lines first.

 

Why do people explore new technology?

Our lines related to logical thinking and questioning : What kind of people will do this? Why they want to explore? What kind of new technology they want?

 

Our topic have connection to biology, psychology, physic and social science.

Biology: In what ways they change human being ?

Psychology:What factors lead them to do this, what are they thinking about?

Physic: What achievement they reached? How they found that?

Social science: What political factors or society influence them?

Except study different subjects to help us understanding our topic, the book “ Frankenstein ” give us some of the good examples for the topic.

People: Characters in the novel were firmly and wanna be a part of successful example in human history.

Technology: Character in the novel want to discover or invent something that no one has done that, but at last they both gave up and knew how harmful is it.

 

Question which have connection to philosophy do not only need information, but also opinion. To achieve our purpose for gathering information, we can:

1, Search scientific achievements in human history, what advantages and disadvantage they have?

2,How did others react when they heard of new technology.

 

My learner profile attributes

Hi, my name is Jan Liu, a girl from G9 class, I’m going to share  the information of learner profile attributes.

The meaning for learner profile attributes is to discover your best virtues and your least virtues, and you need to think how to develop them.

For example, two of my best learner profile attributes are ” innonative” and “balanced”.

Innovative means to apply critical thinking . I do very well for this part. For example, when a creative thinking comes to me (usually art work or essay), I get a lot of ideas and imagination. I’m able to think in unusual ways that other people cannot.

Second one is ” balanced”, which means I understand the importance of physical and emotional control. I can control my emotion sometimes, I often solve my problems by logos. I trate others very well, even when they try to make me angry, I do not solve problems by violence.

But everyone has their strong points and weak points, including me. Now, I’m going to share my two least virtues: “Communicator” and ” courageous” .

Communicator means have a good relationship with others or a good cooperated ability. This is my weakness, I’m afraid to make friends and try to avoid it . Even I show optimistic and enthusiasm to my classmates, but in deep of my heart, I’m fullmof questiong and fear.

I enjoy being along, but I’m afraid of being lonely. I want to have a good social group, but I cannot have it through my actions. I know I need to improve this virtue, that is why you could give me advice.

Second one is ” courageous”, which means to apporach a hard situation with courage and forethought. I also have a problem with this one. I’m timid and afraid to try new stuff. Only I can be brave in my imagination, but I really wish one day I could accept new things and fearless.

For example, when I see something that is dangerous or not guaranteed, I usually give up, try to avoid it.

For me, the learner profile atributes are very important, because it can improve my personality and to influence and control others by let them to understand my virtues.

For my weaknesses, I get  serval ways to improve them. First, I can improve my communicative ability by building a good relationship with others, or ask my mom because she has a lot of experiences for this.

Then, for courageous, I need to practice when I meet a difficult situation! For example, when I meet a situation that is very hard, I’m able to balance myself and give myself confidence. It is important to control my emotion.

If you can give me any advice, I’ll be happy!
